Throughout Neal A. Shaw’s five decades in acoustics, his work has brought him to countless diverse locations across 19 countries on four continents. For some projects, the excitement was the work itself, while for others, in addition to the work, the adventure was the people and culture outside the office.

In this talk, Neal’s selected to share a handful of unique and memorable projects and stories, from shipyards to speedways, metropolitan cities to island villages, tourist destinations to industrial districts, northern climes to tropical locations, as well as some historic meetings and collegial dinners.

Neil A. Shaw studied electrical engineering at the Cooper Union and received his BS Engineering and MS Engineering degrees from the UCLA, where he studied with Richard Stern and William C. Meecham. He is a Fellow of the ASA and the AES, a Senior Member of IEEE, and a member of INCE and SMPTE. Mr. Shaw holds the Kenward S. Oliphant Memorial Fellowship in Acoustical Engineering (from the CEAC), the Samuel L. Warner Memorial Medal (from the SMPTE), and is a member of the California Epsilon chapter of Tau Beta Pi. He has served on the faculty of USC’s Thornton School of Music and the Southern California Institute of Architecture.
